Jardar Johansen is one of Northern Norway’s foremost performers. For more than 16 years, Jardar has done a Christmas tour that has developed into the most popular series of concerts for the holidays in Northern Norway. Jardar and his band present a variety of songs that carry elements an older Norwegian music tradition, to songs that are more contemporary, international Christmas classics. He often creates his concerts as stories, where he combines the music with anecdotes and tales of Christmas. His wish is to share what he feels is the true message of Christmas, while also giving the audience a glimpse of the Norwegian traditions of this holiday.
And now, as Johansen brings his Norwegian Christmas concerts to the United States, he hopes he can serve as a link for the descendants of those who emigrated from Norway or other Scandinavian countries. Christmas is the biggest holiday in Norway, and many of the traditions still linger in those Americans with Norwegian heritage. This was evident last year when Johansen and his band performed to audiences in Minneapolis, Duluth, and Washington, D.C.
Jardar Johansen’s Christmas Tour in Norway is regarded as the best and largest. Tour venues span from the capital, Oslo, to Johansen’s home in Tromsø, and culminate with a performance at the world-renowned Arctic Cathedral.
The concerts in the US feature songs in both Norwegian and English. Young and old alike are certain to recognize some of the tunes and enjoy great stories from the motherland.
