Nóatún Community Wooden Boat Works will be launching our 18-foot, 7-inch wooden færing on Thursday, May 24th, 2018 at 4:00pm at the Lake Walk Park at Endion Station in Canal Park, Duluth, Minnesota! This is a free and public event. All are welcome! The event will likely continue well into the evening.
The Harbor City International School student choir will be singing the boat into the water, maypole dancing and spring time fun will be directed by Terrance Smith, and more festivities will follow!
Bring sunglasses and a life jacket if you are able and prepare to row!
Thanks to the many hardworking volunteers, community supporters, collaborating artists and artisans, visitors both local and far-flung, and all of our well-wishers!
We want to acknowledge and specially thank the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council for the initial support funding that we received from them, and the American Scandinavian Foundation which is helping fund or current, ongoing projects and research! With the help of ASF, our second wooden boat is underway. (More on that later!)
We also would like to thank Dan King of King Properties and all those who run and maintain our physical location in downtown Duluth.
We thank Bruce Engebretsen, Barb Dwinell, and the Duluth Fiber Handcrafters Guild for their support and knowledge in our collaborative weaving project.
Thanks to all who have given money, tools, wood, food, knowledge and time to this amazing creative process; we couldn’t have done it without you!
Thanks All, we hope to see you on the 24th! If you are unable to attend this launch, don’t worry, there will be many more opportunities in the future to see, row, and sail your community wooden boat!
