Over the past few years, gastronomes have started to realize what an exciting, dynamic and cosmopolitan city Copenhagen is, with a jewel to discover around nearly every corner. In Copenhagen Food, Trine Hahnemann invites you to discover the food culture of her home town, which is woven into the fabric of her daily life. This is another love letter from Trine to the city she has called home for almost 50 years now. Hahnemann visits Minneapolis on the {October 22nd for two book signing events to celebrate the release of the English Edition of her latest cookbook. Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Tom Hanson, currently serves as Program Secretary of the Saint Paul-Minneapolis Committee on Foreign Relations and as a lecturer/consultant for the Great Decisions program at Global Minnesota.

Elaine Tyler May, a historian of the United States in the twentieth century and a Regents Professor in the Department of American Studies at the University of Minnesota.

Jonas Bergan Draege, a joint postdoctoral research fellow with the Belfer Center's Middle East Initiative (MEI) and the Center for International Development's Evidence for Policy Design.

The Edvard Grieg Society of Minnesota, Mindekirken, and Tord Gustaven's North American management join forces to present one of Norway's leading artists.

Tord Gustavsen is a jazz pianist and composer, touring extensively and recording as both soloist and bandleader for several of his own ensembles.  Gustavsen was born in Oslo and raised in rural Hurdal, Akershus where he "grew up playing church music.”  He earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology before he turned to music full time.  A prize-winning performer and composer, he is recognized for his “rapt, pristine, meditative music.”  He also maintains his interests in Psychology, writing about the psychological processes involved in musical improvisation.

Opening Reception: The Ballad of Daisy & Billy

Local Norwegian-American artist, Bob Hest, presents a series of playful paintings and rugs that chronicle the settlement of Western Minnesota's Red River Valley by Scandinavian Immigrants at the turn of the century. Norway House's Galleri explodes with Bob Hest's brilliant colors and vivacious subjects with charming detail. Norway House patrons may recognize Hest's work, namely "Yes, Lena, there are foxes in Lofoten," as the signature artwork for this year's Midtsommer Gala. Norway House is proud to showcase Bob Hest's artwork this Fall.

Norway House Members and friends are invited to join Bob Hest and Norway House as we celebrate an evening full gorgeous oil paintings and textiles while enjoying food and a champagne toast courtesy of Barbette and a special live-music guest at 6:00 PM.

Dr. John Haugo, who was a member of the University of Minnesota’s Borlaug Blue Ribbon Commission, will discuss Borlaug’s Norwegian roots, boyhood, education, career and honors. Borlaug’s honors include the Nobel Peace Prize and recognition as one of the world’s top three humanitarians and as the University of Minnesota’s most famous alumnus.

BOY PABLO with Slow Pulp and Zina

Born and raised in Norway by Chilean parents, Boy Pablo wrote and produced his debut EP titled "Roy Pablo" in his parents' basement in one week during his last year of high school in 2016. Much due to his unforseen brush with YouTube fame, Boy Pablo has struck a chord globally, and is embarking on his first international tour, including a show at Minneapolis' own Cedar Cultural Center.

At this FREE event, you’ll have the opportunity to meet Peter Neill, Director of the World Ocean Observatory and Borton Overseas’ featured lecturer on this Antarctic journey. Peter is a renowned expert in maritime history, art, exploration, and marine environmental issues.

Sunniva Sorby will also be joining us. She made history in 1993 as one of the four team members of the American Women’s Antarctic Expedition. Sunniva is passionate about Antarctica and has worked in the Polar Regions for the past 20 years. She and Peter will share their insights on several aspects of Antarctica, including how its environment impacts the earth.

Hanne Ørstavik is one of the most remarkable and admired authors in Norwegian contemporary literature. Her literary breakthrough came in 2005 with the publication of Love (Kjærlighet), which was voted the 6th best Norwegian book of the last 25 years in a prestigious contest in Dagbladet.
