In it’s 42nd year, the Nordic Ball has been an annual tradition of the Nordic Folk Music and Dance communities in the Twin Cities, Minnesota since 1977. The different dance groups in the Twin Cities take turns hosting, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Finnish – this year it is up to the Norwegians!
The Ball gives everyone an opportunity to wear traditional folk costumes or gussy up in a folk-like way and come together to feast, toast, and dance to the music of the many talented folk music groups from the area including Hutenanny, Ole Olesons Oldtime Orchestra, the American Swedish Institute’s Spellmanslag, Nykkleharpalag, the Twin Cities Hardingfelelag, Ballade, Finn Hall, and a host of other musicians.
There are dances called mixers that are easy to follow and a Grand March that everyone can participate in as well. There will be waltz, polka, schottische, reinlender, gangar, pols, polska and springar!
There is a buffet of Norwegian essentials such as herring and lefse and a cash bar.
Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
Come celebrate Nordic culture and community – all are welcome!
