We invite anyone who is interested -- regardless of their gingerbread baking level -- to participate in this local holiday tradition by bringing in a gingerbread house or building to put on display.

Opening Reception: The Ballad of Daisy & Billy

Local Norwegian-American artist, Bob Hest, presents a series of playful paintings and rugs that chronicle the settlement of Western Minnesota's Red River Valley by Scandinavian Immigrants at the turn of the century. Norway House's Galleri explodes with Bob Hest's brilliant colors and vivacious subjects with charming detail. Norway House patrons may recognize Hest's work, namely "Yes, Lena, there are foxes in Lofoten," as the signature artwork for this year's Midtsommer Gala. Norway House is proud to showcase Bob Hest's artwork this Fall.

Norway House Members and friends are invited to join Bob Hest and Norway House as we celebrate an evening full gorgeous oil paintings and textiles while enjoying food and a champagne toast courtesy of Barbette and a special live-music guest at 6:00 PM.

Herbjørn Gausta: A Galleri Talk with Norway House Interns, Annika Vande Krol & Emily Linder

Luther College students and Norway House Inters, Emily Linder and Annika Vande Krol ‘19 will present their investigative research on this celebrated artist. Born in 1854 in Telemark, Norway, Gausta is best known for his rich landscapes and genre paintings as well as protraits of prominent, local individuals he met after moing to Harmony, Minnesota and attending Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.

The colorful works will boldly deck the walls of our café on the main floor, the living room of Norway House, offering picturesque tastes of the iconic fjords, flowers, viking ships, and mountains that harken us all to think of the sagas and the rugged beauty of the Nordic landscape. For the first time, Norway House and Norway Art are proudcing an art display, downstairs in the Coltvet Room. Norway Art's collection is the source of the selections of art treasures from five Scandinavian countries. The Norway Art® Scandinavian art importing business is based at Norway House, Minneapolis where visitors make appointments at their convenience to view some of the art from the Norway Art collection and possibly choose a treasure for their home or office. Since 1979 when Mary Jo Thorsheim established the Norway Art business, fine prints and paintings have been imported to the United States and Canada.
