This is a "bucket-list" tour for all Minnesotans! Experience a behind-the-scenes tour of the Minnesota Historical society in St. Paul. You will visit the lower level where the Society stores all paper, materials, and relics for future preservation and use int he main display areas of the building. Refreshments will be served.

This Out & About Adventure is a great way to have fun with friends, and donate to Norway House!

In Cod We Trust: 10th Anniversary - Author Eric Dregni revisits his incredible year in Trondheim

10 years since the publication of In Cod We Trust: Living the Norwegian Dream, Erik Dregni’s book remains not only relevant, but also an hilarious and heartwarming memoir about Dregni’s year-long long experiment in Norway, including discoveries about his family history, culture clash, and his son’s birth into the remarkably generous Norwegian healthcare system. Dregni visits Norway House 10 years after the publication of his book to share slides and stories from winter in Norway, and to read selections from his book.

In concert with Norwegian Heritage Month, there will be two sessions providing the opportunity for Norway House visitors to attend a class assisting with locating your ancestral place in Norway via a video training session by an expert from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah. Additionally, there will be assistance to help participants find their ancestral location in Norway. Participants may wish to bring material that may provide insight about their immigrant ancestor.

Opening Reception: The Ballad of Daisy & Billy

Local Norwegian-American artist, Bob Hest, presents a series of playful paintings and rugs that chronicle the settlement of Western Minnesota's Red River Valley by Scandinavian Immigrants at the turn of the century. Norway House's Galleri explodes with Bob Hest's brilliant colors and vivacious subjects with charming detail. Norway House patrons may recognize Hest's work, namely "Yes, Lena, there are foxes in Lofoten," as the signature artwork for this year's Midtsommer Gala. Norway House is proud to showcase Bob Hest's artwork this Fall.

Norway House Members and friends are invited to join Bob Hest and Norway House as we celebrate an evening full gorgeous oil paintings and textiles while enjoying food and a champagne toast courtesy of Barbette and a special live-music guest at 6:00 PM.

How to Trace Your Norwegian Ancestors

A hands-on workshop with Norwegian genealogist, Liv Marit Haakenstad.


Participants will begin researching US sources, to find their family's origins in the US, and where they moved from. Haakenstad will then assist participants with sources from Norway to "put the pieces of the puzzle together."  Haakenstad will also discuss how to search the "Digital Archive" and other online sources of searchable and scanned historical documents.
