A SWANKY SOLSTICE
B-DAY FEST

“Midtsommer” is the Norwegian word for the summer solstice when parts of Norway experience the Midnight Sun. A well-known poem by Aslaug Lygre insists, “We shall not sleep away the summer night—she’s too bright for that. Instead, we shall stroll together beneath the trees, heavy with leaves.” The magical Midsummer Sun grants wishes for prosperity and love in the coming year.

The Midtsommer Gala fundraiser truly makes wishes come true!

Our annual fundraiser is celebrated among friends, both old and new. We raise key funds to keep Norway House thriving into the coming year, and we enjoy partying under the Midtsommer Sun Norwegian style! This year’s birthday party for Midtsommer promises to be extra fun and fancy, like no gala you’ve been to before. Help us blow out the candles!

If you’re willing to contribute, answer some or all of these questions by email to our Director of Communications, Ethan Bjelland Hagberg: ebjelland@norwayhouse.org

When I was 20, I spent the summer working at Skogfjorden, a Norwegian youth language camp. My biggest challenge was definitely trying to figure out what to do with my theatre and Scandinavian studies degrees. With just one more year of school, I was applying and auditioning everywhere! I would tell my 20-year-old self to keep hustling and bustling because it will pay off in the end, though young Ethan could maybe have said no to a few things now and then…

I’m so proud of how far Norway House has come in 20 years! I especially love seeing how many new people and families get involved with Gingerbread Wonderland from year to year.
