THE 2019 GALLERY SEASON
The first presentation in the Gallery at Norway House this year features two contemporary Danish ceramic artists, Michael Geertsen and Morten Løbner Espersen in tandem with Minnesota woodcarver, Mike Loeffler. These works offer an opportunity for Norway House audiences to explore how familiar objects - like vases, pitchers, and plates - can be re-imagined in creative ways, illustrating an infinite variety of possibilities, all within the theme of “Vessel.”
The Sami, northern Europe's only indigenous people, dream dreams few others fully understand. With shamanistic roots disrupted by nightmarish oppression, a present blessed by resiliency and growing political power, and a future confronted by climate change and lingering marginalization, these are the people, from poets to politicians, whose dreams will carry them forward.
Judy Olausen’s personal project developed into a best-selling and influential book, Mother, published in 1996, broke a sales record at The New York Times. It is also a loving tribute to her mother, Vivian, who modeled for the images, and took the artist four years to complete. Quoted in Harper’s, Olausen described her mother as part of “…a forgotten generation of women who put their kids and husbands before their own needs and hovered in the background, like furniture.”
This canonically Minnesotan and Nordic-American artist will show her work in the Gallery at Norway House this Summer. You are heartily invited to experience the detailed scenes and humor guaranteed to make you smirk.
Twin Cities’ family-owned and operated kitchen design and manufacturing company, Nordic Ware is undoubtedly known most for introducing the Bundt® pan, which can be found in over 70 million households around the world. Since its introduction in the early 1950s, the Bundt pan found its way into the hearts and homes of people everywhere, the Bundt® cake has become the quintessential American dessert--one that’s become a tradition for countless gatherings and family celebrations.
