Follow the trail of the Nordics’ most celebrated composer, Edvard Hagerup Grieg, from the homes he grew up in, to his summer getaways, his favorite haunts, and the extensive legacy he’s left across Norway. This one-of-a-kind tour includes a stay in the Opus XVI Grieg Heritage Hotel, owned by Grieg’s decedents, who will give us a private tour. Among other historic spots, we’ll visit Grieg’s childhood home, enjoy a recital on Grieg’s piano at the Troldhaugen Museum, meet the director of the Grieg Academy, and view Grieg’s archives at the Bergen Public Library.
Grieg was inspired by vast and mysterious landscape of Norway as well as the people and folk cultures that lived there. We’ll travel through the thick of Norwegian fjord country and stay at the Hotel Ullensvang on the Hardangerfjord where Grieg and his wife, Nina spent many a summer. Romantic stops along the way to see two viking-era stave churches.
