Peace + the World

It’s no secret that peacekeeping and environmental sustainability are cornerstones of what it means to be Norwegian. The Nobel Peace Prize, awarded annually in Oslo, is the only Nobel Prize chosen outside of Sweden, and Norwegian peace negotiations have brought about some of the most influential treaties and armistices in world history. The Global Seed Vault in Svalbard houses the world’s heirloom fauna, and despite the massive Norwegian oil resources, the country ranks at the top of electric vehicle usage worldwide and is consistently committing to more efficient energy solutions.

Minnesota Peace Initiative

Norway House’s Minnesota Peace Initiative brings topics of international peace and the environment to the forefront with free, bi-annual plenary discussions which are open to the public. Experts from around the world come together in Norway House’s Sundet Aula to provide valuable insight into world issues.

The Minnesota Peace Initiative was created in 2008 by Janet Dolan and her husband, William Moore, who share a passion for peace, dialogue, and the environment. Symposiums on relevant topics occur twice a year, in the Spring and Autumn. Each features prominent speakers, panels, and interactive experiences to achieve enlightening dialogue and inspire civic engagement.
