MINNEAPOLIS – (Feb. 4, 2019) – Christina Carleton, Executive Director of Norway House, is honored to announce that His Majesty King Harald V of Norway has become a patron of the Minneapolis-based Norwegian organization. “We are extremely pleased that His Majesty King Harald has selected Norway House to be one of the few U.S.-based organizations he supports,” says Carleton.
King Harald, on thorough review of Norway House’s mission, expressed support for the exhibits, programming and dedicated efforts to connect the United States to modern Norway through business, arts, and culture. The organization features diverse programming, including its innovative Minnesota Peace Initiative, an annual program featuring highly regarded topic experts to raise awareness, educate and foster engagement related to peace issues and peacemaking efforts worldwide, and The Edvard Grieg Society that promotes modern and contemporary Nordic music, as well as the work of the well-known Norwegian composer.
Norway House’s Gallery features year-round exhibits of fine art from Nordic artists and craftsmen, and guest speakers and musicians are on the calendar many times a month. The Norway House Young Professionals group enjoys specially designed events throughout the year. Each holiday, the organization hosts the annual Gingerbread Wonderland exhibit, inspired by the annual world-renowned display in Bergen. Gingerbread Wonderland, which will celebrate its fifth anniversary this year, is fast becoming a favorite Twin Cities holiday tradition with more than 13,000 visitors.
Norway House is currently in the process of developing a new event center adjacent to its building. The new space will be multi-functional and offer a place for community gathering and celebration of Norwegian culture. A genealogy library is included in the design of the new space, which Norway House hopes to complete by 2022.
