A Viking Adventure for the Barns: Storytime, Crafts, and Creative Fun

12 noon   Lunchtime munchies

12:30 pm   Storytime and crafts

Author-explorer Ariane Erickson is sailing into The Norway House on Sunday, May 18 from 12 - 1:30 pm, armed with her newest picture book, Freya Takes Charge!

Prepare for an epic Viking voyage featuring:

Lunchtime munchies (Vikings love food)
A mighty book reading (Vikings write good books)
A round of curious questions (from YOU)
A shield and helmet-making activity (no Viking can train without them)
A Viking alphabet craft (yes, Vikings can read)
And, as featured in the book...a Viking knitting circle! (uh-huh, Vikings can knit too!)

Ariane will also be signing her book, which you may purchase at the event. Don't miss your chance to get a personalized copy of this uproarious Viking tale!

This event is free-of-charge, but please register so we have a headcount for food and craft supplies!

Please note: May 18 is a celebration of Syttende Mai, the Norwegian Independence Day. We will not have parking available because of events planned at Mindekirken, the Norwegian Memorial Lutheran Church. So please bike, Uber, walk, or take the bus and join us for a day of activities. Your family can even be part of a parade! For detailed information, please visit www.mindekirken.org.

About the Book: Freya the Friendly is excited to join her father's Viking crew as they set sail for Scotland. But her dad has some pretty unfriendly rules: yell, growl, and grab what you want. Vikings don't dance. And when you hear bagpipes - make a face and cover your ears! To be true to her name, Freya must make a choice. Can she persuade her crewmates to be nice, kick up their heels, and play those dreadful pipes - in pursuit of friendship, fun, and riches?

About the Author: Ariane and her husband Todd founded Norse-Gael Books as a tribute to their shared Norwegian and Scottish roots. Given the deep and storied history between the Vikings and the Scots, it’s entirely possible their ancestors once crossed paths—trading, clashing, or even sharing a meal. Freya Takes Charge imagines one of those encounters, bringing to life a bold and spirited meeting between the legendary Vikings and the proud and formidable Scots.
