Programs @ Norway House

Classes + Education

Our educational programs offer a diverse range of classes and lectures that celebrate the rich cultures, foods, and arts of the Nordic region. From hands-on cooking and baking classes where participants can learn traditional Norwegian recipes and techniques, to engaging discussions about folk arts and crafts, our programs aim to both educate and inspire. Language classes are offered through our partners at the Mindekirken Norwegian Language + Culture Program (MNLCP) and the Concordia Language Villages.

Carstens Smith is our Education Coordinator. She has years of experience growing programs like ours and teacher contacts with Nordic arts and culture backgrounds from her work with Ingebretsen’s, the American Swedish Institute, and many other cultural organizations. Contact her with ideas for classes, ways you’d like to get involved, and any questions you have about our educational opportunities.

Mindekirken Norwegian Language + Culture Program (MNLCP)

We’re proud to share the “Norway Block” with Mindekirken—the country’s only church providing services in the Norwegian language. The church’s language and culture program is home to an inclusive and dedicated learning community both in-person and online. Classes span beginner-level courses, to advanced grammar and conversation, to book clubs in the target language.

MNLCP also offers “Norskeklubben,” free bimonthly classes for kids ages 6-11.

Concordia Language Villages (CLV)

The Concordia Language Villages are perhaps best known for their summer immersion camps for school-age children and their accredited high school language programs.

CLV also offers residential immersion getaways in Bemidji, MN for adults and families, as well as online-language learning options.
