Ingrained: Stories Carved in Wood explores Northern European woodwork from the late 17th to early 19th centuries — an era when wood became the primary medium for expressing identity, belief, and skill. Chip carving, pyrography, and rosemaling transformed everyday objects into lasting works of beauty and meaning: storage chests, bridal gifts, ale bowls, and ritual furnishings, each shaped entirely by hand.

Ingrained is made possible through the generous donation of artifacts from the collection of Bill Wangensteen. On view for the first time, the exhibit invites visitors to explore the stories rendered into every curve, motif, and grain.
