Viking Knotwork in the Mammen Style with Jeanine Malec (Day 1 of 2)

  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis United States (map)

This class is an invitation to explore the elements and archetypes of Viking artwork through hands-on drawing exercises with artist Jeanine Malec. This two-session class will focus on the Mammen style, which was used from 950 to 1025 CE.

Mammen-style Viking knotwork is the 5th of 7 identifiable styles of Viking design. It is exemplified by the recurring theme of an abstract "Great Beast" entangled with a serpent in battle. The viewer sees the beast and serpent from several angles at once.

This is an all-levels class with beginners encouraged to join. No special art supplies are needed. Bring pencils, markers, or pens if you would like.
