The Norwegian Seamen's Church, Then and Now with Pastor Line Kvalvaag

  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis United States (map)

Line Kvalvaag, Senior Pastor, The Norwegian Seamen’s Church, Houston, Texas

Join Line Kvalvaag, Senior Pastor of the Houston Sjømannskirken, as she speaks on the church’s evolving and expanding role. Originally chartered by the government of Norway in 1864 to serve as a safe haven for sailors abroad, the 28 individual churches spanning the globe have met the demands of a changing world by expanding their scope and services.

The Sjømannskirken now serves all Norwegians abroad and the surrounding communities in which the individual churches are located. With the increasing number of weather disasters, the church has taken an active role in preparedness and assisting with relief.

These new responsibilities, whether it is the heartbreaking task of telling a family that a member has died, or helping coordinate a community response, has helped the church retain its role of stabilizing and enriching the lives of all who need it.

Have a cup of coffee and talk with Pastor Kvalvaag as she tells the history of the Seamen’s Church and how the church is meeting its increased scope of responsibilities. She also shares suggestions on preparedness and talking to people when there is an upheaval in their lives.
