Before Genealogy 101: The very first steps before starting your research

This class is for people who at the absolute beginning of learning genealogy and building a family tree. It is especially helpful preparation if you want to use the Haugo Bibliotek Bygdelag Special Collections Room at Norway House. However, the information you receive in this class is applicable to starting any genealogy project regardless of ancesry.

It is important to establish your American family tree before looking for sources in other countries. You will learn genealogy vocabulary, learn conventions of genealogy so you can confirm information, begin to fill in a family tree, and get a list of resources that will help you as you delve into your famly’s history.
