This October, Norway House welcomes acclaimed Norwegian artist Marianne Skjelbred from her Bergen gallery for one special evening in Minnesota.
For more than 20 years, Marianne has painted the Norway that generations of Norwegian Americans know and love: Bergen and Bryggen, the fjords, the coast, and the Northern Lights. Today, her art is held in private collections in 59 countries, including more than 700 private collectors across the United States.
Her story has been featured on Viking.TV, and her 2024 solo exhibition in Manhattan was opened by a former Prime Minister of Norway.
Now, you can meet her at Norway House.
The evening will begin with Viking.TV’s 11-minute film portrait of Marianne. She and her husband and manager, Christian, will then share the story behind the art and the 20-year journey that has taken her work from Bergen into homes around the world. Afterward, guests will have time to meet and talk with Marianne personally.

Discover the collection
Marianne’s original paintings and signed and numbered fine-art prints can be viewed and acquired now through her online gallery:
Explore the collection ahead of Marianne’s visit and choose a work in advance, or make your selection during the evening at Norway House.
Collectors who acquire a work between now and the Norway House evening will receive a personal signed dedication from Marianne, created especially for them. After returning home to Bergen, Marianne will write each dedication personally and send it together with the artwork from Norway. It can be mounted discreetly on the back after framing, creating a lasting connection to the evening when the artist and collector met at Norway House.
Marianne will also present a signed and numbered edition of The Northern Lights II to one guest during the evening.
Original paintings are shipped securely from Bergen in custom-built crates, while signed and numbered fine-art prints are sent unframed. Marianne covers the full shipping cost from Norway.
Across the Atlantic
In 2025, Norway and America marked 200 years since the beginning of organized Norwegian migration to the United States. Two centuries later, the connection between Norway and Norwegian America remains very much alive.
To honor that enduring connection, Marianne will present Norway House with a signed and numbered edition of The Northern Lights over Bryggen. The artwork will remain permanently at Norway House as a gift from Bergen to the Norwegian-American community.
Join us for an exceptional evening at Norway House: meet Marianne in person, hear the story behind her art, and choose a work from her online gallery to make part of your own home and story.
