Nordic pop-up featuring the music and dance from Telemark, Norway

  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55404 United States (map)

Learn the musical and dance traditions of Telemark, Norway with Kari Tauring and fiddler Rachel Ulvin-Jensen.

April is Telemark Music and Dance month!

Join Kari Tauring at Hygge Happy Hour along with Rachel Ulvin-Jensen of the Twin Cities Hardingfelelag

Learn a little about Norway’s National Instrument and join us in dancing Telegangar, a walking dance from Telemark, Norway. Other favorites will be played and danced as well such as the gangar from Setesdal and the Schottische for picking raspberries. Kari will play her overtone flute, dulcimer, and sing for dancing too!

This event is free and is during Norway House's Hygge Happy Hour, where you can purchase a BOGO glass of beer or wine. A full menu is also available.

No experience necessary for the dance, however, you can prepare for the evening by joining Kari at Tapestry Folkdance Center for one or all of her Telemark dance workshops Wednesday nights April 1, 8, and 15, 8-9:30 pm.

Kari will also teach Telegangar at Second Sunday Nordic Social Dance on April 12. The following also links to the Norway House “Dancing Alone Together” videos of Carol Sersland and Kari teaching a modified Teleganger for Covid times!
