The 9 Herbs Charm with Kari Tauring

  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55404 United States (map)

Join Kari Tauring for an introduction to the Old Anglo-Saxon healing charm from the Lacnunga (Remedies). Written around the year 900, the remedy book contains both Christian and Pagan prayers and imagery and is in both Germanic, Celtic, and Latin languages.

The Nine Herbs Charm is perhaps the most famous portion of the book. Here the healer sings to each of the plants, a recipe a powerful salve, and a prayer for blowing poison away from the afflicted.

Kari deeply engaged with this poem and these plants during the global pandemic and uprisings. She continues to call on these plants for their power against “poison and infection and the loathsome things that fare through the land." Part of her “Nordic Plant Lore” series.
