  • Norway House 913 East Franklin Avenue Minneapolis, MN, 55404 United States (map)

This is an absolute beginner's genealogy class. Learn basic vocabulary, resources, principles, and how to build a chart.

This 90-minute class is for people who are absolutely new to genealogy. If you have just discovered your ancestry with a DNA test or are not certain who your grandparents are but would like to research your family history, this is for you.

Genealogists and archivists Jeff Huset will carefully take you through the basic steps necessary to build a family tree . It's important to be grounded in your American ancestry before trying to research your Norwegian family.

It is helpful, but not required, to decide on one person in your family to be the starting point for your search. This focus make it easier for you to find your way through the information you will find.

You will learn basic geneaology vocabulary in English and the Norwegian terms you will find in records. By the end of class you will know how to look for information, how to record the information you find, and what steps to take next.

At the end of class, you are invited to join the instructor for a cup of coffe at the Norway House Kaffebar and share family stories along with your classmates.

You will leave with a rich compilation of resources and knowledge how to reach further into the past accurately.
